  2. Digital literacy is an individual’s ability to find, evaluate and compose true information through writing or other media on a number of different digital platrorms. Digital literacy is assessed according to the individual’s grammar, use of the words, composition, typing skills and the ability to produce text, image, audio, video and designs using the technology.
Nowadays people use the words “digital literacy” and “digital skills” interchangeably as if they mean the same. But the importance of knowing the difference between these two words makes a tremendous contribution to individuals in a society where communication and access to information is increasingly through digital technologies.
Digital skills focus on what and how while digital literacy focuses on why, when, who, and for whom. For example, digital skills mean that you can follow a step-by-step process of creating an email account. But digital literacy means that you can recognize spam, know why it is being sent, understand how email providers use filters to minimize potential harm and send appropriate messages to the ones who you want to interact with.
